Why Indiana and Indianapolis sucks! Mean, old-school, backward, racist, cold, anti-social people

I have been living in this slice of hell state called Indiana for the last one year and seven months. Two years coming this June. Anyhow, I'm from the West coast, have lived in Seattle, Hawaii, the Bay Area, lost angeles (that's another story) and a stint on the East Coast in New Jersey. I have bad stories to tell about those other places I have lived in. But nothing trumps shittiness compared to where I'm currently living - Indianapolis, IN. OMG. I can't believe this is a "city!!" LOL! This is more like a small DINKY city with dinky 40-storied buildings (skyscrappers to hoosiers who have not travelled outside this boony state) and a shitload of suburbs clumped together. I am also surprised that people here are mean spirited, cold, uncaring, racist, xenophobic, old-school, backwards, retarded, and the list goes on. Indianapolis, or what I or other people who dislike this "city" say - India-no-place or naptown, is so bleh, boring. This is such a boring city that people want to take long naps throughout the day. No kidding. In fact I get so bored, not being entertained by the shitty theaters and the one and only Castleton Square Mall that can't entertain a guy like me.

I also want to add that people here drive like fuccen idiots! I swear! They don't know how to stay in their own lanes. I don't know about you fellow hoosiers here, but whenever I'm driving on the 465 or the 70 freeway or even the 65 freeway, there always tend to be a stupid hoosier who's driving across the dividing line into my lane!! Why?!! I don't know. I honk at those kind of drivers to get them to stay awake or to get them to pay a damn attention to how they're driving. Funny thing is those idiots usually honk their horns back at me in unison as if I've done something wrong myself. What retards. Honking your horn here is considered "rude." LOL! But heck, what can I do when your typical Indiana resident don't have enough gray matter in their cranial cavity to drive an automobile!

I also dislike the shitty weather here. Sooo damn humid AND HOT during the summer time! Hot like 94F on average in June and July and into late September sometimes. And on top of that crazy hot temperature is crazy high humidity. then during the winter time, it gets so cold that sometimes my hands will beging to get numb if I leave them out in the cold air. Talk about pure potential risk of getting frostbites! Yeah, every damn winter time, I always get severely dried skin, and they become very itchy. Even Vaseline or Aveeno lotion don't even help me! There are also stupid laws here as well. one is you cannot, yes you got that right, cannot purchase alcoholic beverages here in Indiana on Sundays. Why? Because it's church day. Heck, I go to chruch, and I'm a Christian. But this kind of law is very stupid. In addition, a lot of hoosiers still tend to smoke a lot of cigarette. People here in Indiana are NOT health-conscious people. Compare to Seattle or Hawaii where I used to live where people exercise, try to stay away from becoming alcoholics and eat healthy food. None of this Steak and Shake shit, or hamburgers and shake, or fries and fried garbage food. I never eat or try not to eat out at any american fast food joints.

I stay traditional and order take outs from Sushi restaurants, Korean restaurants or eat at Thai restaurants. Lastly, the people here are mean-spirited, rude, and racist. Hoosier hospitality my ass. If you have blonde hair, and blue eyes, then yeah, you'll get treated nicely here. But if you're a minority, esp. like me who's originally from Hong-Kong, then people will talk rudely to you, raise their voice, and talk loudly. They'll ask stupid question like "do you speak Japanese?" when my fucking lastname is Chinese. Everything Asian here is "Japanese." Fucking jap-phile hoosiers. The locals here are predominantly white or black people, but mostly snotty, cold, uncaring fucked up whites of german or jewish crooked nosed ancestry. There is a smatter of hispanics living on the West and East side of town, but I only see them when I go shopping at a huge Korean/international supermarket on the West side of town. The whites here think that they're smarter than you, esp if you're a non-white, when in fact, these white losers can't even compete with the smarter and brighter people from California or Boston or New York.
They like to talk loud, rub things in your face (i.e." oh wow Charles! At least I have a BMW car!" - yeah fuck you) when you don't drive a decent car, did something wrong or don't act accordingly to typical hoosiers here. All about rubbing things into your face figuratively to make them look good, and to make you look bad. Whatever, because I usually smirk at these kind of smart ass dipshits.

Indy is full of fat, redneck, steak and shake chugging/munching, harley davidson riding punks. Like I've said, they talk rudely to you, don't even look at you, don't want to even say a simple hi to you, etc. The list goes on about the losers of India-no-place. I even had white losers here who don't even hold the door open for me. Maybe if I had a blonde wig on and fake blue eyed contact lens on, maybe these german or jew hoosiers would help me out. Overall, hoosier hospitality for you only if you're white living in the boondocks or a black person living in either west, south or east indy area. Other than that, you're just a foreigner.

Indiana peeps are bunch of faggots. In fact tonight, I was walking out from the gym, and this white punk kept spitting while walking behind me. So I turned around and said "what, you got fucking problem?!!" That punk didn't talk back to me. Rather, he briskly walked pass me and I spit back at him. Booyahz! That's what your typical hoosier guy is. Spit like losers, act tough like they have a chip on their shoulder, but when they find out my friends and I can speak English, or when confronted to a brawl, they back down. I would have clocked that punk too.

I also want to rant about how backward and non-developmental these hoosier people are. They don't want a railway system. They rely on shitty transportation system such as the city bus. Wow. The people here also don't have a decent recycling system where you can get compensated for turning in aluminum cans or plastic soda bottles. It's all about throwing things away - pretty much the old fashioned way. Unlike in states such as California where I used to get ten cents per plastic bottle I recycled, or five cents for every soda cans or soda bottles I recycled in Hawaii. Whenever you make suggestions of changes to the idiots of Indiana, esp if you're a non-white person, another white hoosier always says "no." Yeah fuck you. Oh, and it's so hilarious how hoosiers like to mock Kentucky. In fact, I found Kentucky to be more clean, and the folks there treated me like a human being, and were very cordial.

Anyhow, no wonder companies and non-hoosier businesses don't want to stay here any more. Glad that Chrysler's automobile plants closed down in kokomo. Good riddance. gov mitch daniels can get off his chariot and start looking to other job industries to boost Indiana's economy rather than relying on shitty american cars to employ people here.

Thank God I only have several more years of grad school left in this slice of hell.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to add that the Indiana university system is a circus! They are so nazi and strict when it comes to giving non-resident in-state tuition. In order to get in-state tuition, you have to have come to this slice of hell called Indiana for work or non-educational purposes, prior to entering any academic program in this slice of hell in mid america. LOL! Who the hell is going to come here to solely work for a low-wage job in Indiana when you can get paid higher wages in cities like NYC, LA, Atlanta, Chicago??!! Are these IU regents kidding me? Maybe it's time for IU president and the regents and whoever the hell is or are in charge of granting in-state tuition to non-residents to follow the steps of states like Texas, Connecticut, Massachusetts and LOL even the "other" college called Purdue University. See, Purdue University, although I'm not a student at their university, is a prime example of what IU and other dimwit IU branch (i.e. IUPUI, IPFW, etc..) colleges here should strive to be. No wonder Hoosier football and basketball is such a fuking joke! Purdue ripped the hoosier's another a$$hole in the 2008 rivalry football game! And hoosier basketball is no longer the glitz and glamour that they once used to have attached to their name.

Okie doks. Time to get off my ranting soap box and call it a day living in india-no-place. Whew!

    2. Martinsville was the birthplace of the Klan in Indiana, you lummox. The Klan was born in the SOUTH after the Civil War. Fucking read some history before you spout this dumb fuck shit, while calling other people dumb. I can't stand dipshit hoosiers either, but there's way more here than Martinsville. I'd be rude to smug fuck like yourself too, though, so you're not off the mark on that.

  6. You DEFENDERS have a lot of damned nerve. My ancestors were here BEFORE yours, and it was a great area then. The klan moved into Martinsville, and this state went to hell. I recently watched a documentary about the "sundown towns", and Indiana was right there in the mix. Dumbest f-ing people short of the deep south.

  7. You can't judge the entire state on just one city. Have you ever been to Northern Indiana? Oh, I'm sorry you cannot handle the cold. We all can. This is our state. And we don't like people like you automatically coming here and judging us. Born and raised in Indiana.

    1. Been here nine years, and gave it all I've got. The cold is just another reason to hate this place. I've lived in multiple places within the state, and traveled. The attitude of your comment is a taste of the pride in ignorance that sweeps this state. Instead of trying to show someone different with a can do attitude, it's still all sarcasm. The only reason your proud of this place, is because you Don't know what you're missing elsewhere. You are also offended by someone doesn't like your state in general, not you in particular. We might as well do another ridiculous argument over sports teams. God help me.

  8. I moved to Indianapolis for a job, don't know anyone here, never been here. Without all the ranting, let me just say there's a kernel of truth in everything this guy is saying. I grew up in Chicago, lived in Washington DC, worked and been to Minneapolis, San Francisco and a lot of other places. I find Indianapolis to be far more Republican, conservative, and racist, than most places I've lived, with far less community services like, renter protection laws, consumer protection laws, mass transportation; and no plan to do it, either. Low property taxes means low services and high crime. Indianapolis has about 200,000+ people more than Milwaukee in the city proper, and 300 less cops. I live in a northwest side apartment complex, and we have a higher level of crime than any similar sociologic area I've ever lived in.

Cheap place to own a house, but apartment rents are through the roof for what you get, and they do stuff like charge you for water, and it's un-metered, meaning they just make it up. Right wing, religious in functions that should have nothing to do with religion, young marriage age with the number of kids almost double other 'educated' areas (and incessant 'family based' advertising that bombards you from the tv and radio). Yes about the drivers, why are only 3-4 people getting through a left turn green arrow? Why are only 8 people getting through a green light? Why do people wait for both sides of a divided highway to clear before they move into the middle. Dare I use the words: hillbilly retards.

If you look at the advertising stats for Indy (and that's a business I know), the Indianapolis dream of attracting cyber workers is so sadly faulty; they have practically nothing that modern cyber workers want, like a classic walk-able city neighborhood and efficient mass transportation (low wages too, compared to rental costs). And the Republicans will keep them from getting it. The state gives large tax breaks to developers to build for the rich, with no affordable component for the rest of us (how does that legally even happen). Downtown Carmel with it's horrible street "art" is just deplorable.

Don't talk to me about Zionsville, Carmel, and Fischers either: Not a city setting, no mass trans, it's Disneyland for rich white folks; and have I said? Nowhere near the city. Maybe SoBro if it was 3 times the size, had safer car parking, and no one was gouging on the rents, ditto for Irvington. Fountain Square is so tiny, and so surrounded by crime, it's not even worth talking about...

I could go on and on, but, it's just easier to say that unless you're stuck here at a job, you can do much better other places. Making Indy a modern "tech city" is just wishful thinking by chamber of commerce types and the ad stats detailing the sociology say it's never going to happen, or at least not in your life time.

  10. I'm sorry but I find it a annoyance when someone from another state comes to a different state and accuses every single person in the state of being racists, homophobic, and stupid when every single state in the union even including California and Hawaii have about the same amount of the exact imbeciles you've described in your rant. I'm sorry you've only seen this place in black in white but I could honestly move to California and have the same experience you've had living here. Moving to any state I could have that same experience. There are some good people here as hard as it may sound, you just can't pass judgement on a entire population like that my friend.

Now as far as food choices and things to do, I can agree full hearty with you on that one. Hamilton County were I live is just one giant boring strip mall. Finding a hiring job in this county other than fast food or retail is a real challenge.

    1. I have to say, that's NOT true. I've actually lived a bunch of places before moving to Indiana, and you'd be hard pressed to even experience the overt 'imbeciles' (as you say), in all of the other places I've lived. Of course, I haven't lived in Texas, Oklahoma, or a lot of other racist red states, so that might be the problem; but I have to say you are wrong, Kory, Indiana is a special place of weird hillbilly imbeciles compared to almost every place I've been!

  11. I am an international student and have been in Indianapolis, IN for two years. I can only say that my experience in these two years has been hellish and rank. The weather is horrible and prevents anyone from doing anything physically or mentally productive. I won't bash too much on the weather as it's a natural occurrence. The city layout is horrible; everything is spaced out and far away. The nearest grocery shop is 7 miles away and it's a task to drive to it to do the weekly shop. There are no or poorly maintained sidewalks which prevents people from walking. There is no street culture at all; no street food; no efficient public transport system. All this leads to people eating crappy food and driving everywhere which leads to obesity and fat people everywhere. I was fortunate that I wasn't the target of any race remarks/acts (I am not white), but some of the whites I hung out with made some really derogatory and blanket remarks about the blacks. People are cliquish, close minded and keep to themselves. As a result, an outsider can't gel in and have a jolly time. Also, no one likes novelty or something different. So, to be accepted, one has to fit in. People seem to be wary of "outsiders". This is so different from the way things are back home, where we accept different influences and like a bit of variety. Some people I have talked to haven't left the state or the nation and have no idea about other cultures or nations. They conveniently make assumptions about other people and impose them blatantly. And I am talking about young people in a university environment. Overall, social life is rather non-existent here. Dating is hopeless and unfeasible in such an environment.
Driving over here is a hazardous sport. Very few people obey the traffic laws, most are speeding, no turn indicators, rusty old cars that seem to be never serviced and rampant text-and-drive. I have about 5 years of grad school left in this rag place and I hope they pass by swiftly.

I've got 100% of my mental focus on my the road and my driving and the cars around me. To me driving is life or death, and I waste NO TIME on the road. I'm weaving in and out of lanes honking, flipping off people and shaking my fist. In fact I have my hand perfectly positioned near the horn so I can honk at people in the split second start they do something stupid, which is often. But Indiana was definitely the worst. Never have I seen such horrible, careless idiotic drivers. I must have flipped off the entire population of IN at one point or another because it seems everyone down there has their head in the clouds while driving.

I will even add to it 'The Midwest is just like the south with just as much racism but with meaner people ! and perhaps more segeration .Ohio Indiana West PA and most of the Midwest is just as uneducated and backwater as the former confederacy ! The Midwest states are losing population by the boatload and its not just the lack of jobs its the bad health habits and severe cultural inferiority ! Midwest states are 84 to 88 pct white most of the most racially segerated big cities are in the Midwest and most folks believe that their Christian faith is supreme to all and should be law ! These people for them most part here are everthing uneducated southerners are but maybe even more racist because people in the south have the balls to tell you they hate you up front ! In the Midwest they befriend people of color they hate! I would say Ohio and Nebraska are two of the most culturally trashy backwater states ive been in and Indiana has to be up there !

And the blacks are just as bad as the whites. Not only that, the jobs market here isn't as competitive as other places I've lived. And the bosses here are all simple minded Neanderthals who go ugh ugh and slam their fucking clubs down. This method is prefered, instead of trying to work towards a simple solution, to fix the actual problem. Not only that, there isn't much to do here for recreation. All the state parks are a joke, with the exception of Abe Martin Lodge. The theaters here are behind cinema showings by at least a couple of weeks. I talk to my family in Texas and they have already seen movies in theaters. Then theres bowling alleys and Rascals fun zone and ???????. Wow, what the fuck. Its like Indiana is stuck in the 1940's lets break out the fontunas and lucky stikes and say " yeah baby cakes, your a sweet dame". Yeah...and they hate everyone else too....gay OR non-gay, even if they're a conservative bigot like yourself or themselves, I have a friend who voted for Trump and still got harassed by bikers, another one, son of a pastor, also voted for Trump and is staunchly anti-gay (openly told me he supports discrimination of gays) but gets yelled at by old white trash conservatives...the very people that he thought was on "his side". Clearly....gays are not the problem.....

  37. I seriously feel you, I live in Indiana, everyone is here is a fucking asshole....it's a wasteland filled with fucking violent-ass or pissed off bikers, wannabe rednecks, and wannabe Fast and the Furius drivers that constantly ruin everyone else's day revving their loud ass engines. Oh yeah, and assholes here don't stop for pedestrians either in parking lots, as a matter of fact...they'll purposely FLOOR their engines to make their point. Plus it's filled with a bunch of old, racist pissed-off white trash wannabe Southerner-type people (my God, these people have no sense of identity - they're wannabes of other regions, one bunch acts like they're Chicagoans, another acts like they're from the South). Seems like everyone in Indiana is just pissed off and miserable in general, and wants to make life miserable for everyone else. This isn't Indianapolis either, this is NW Indiana - "Da Region" where I live, this ENTIRE state is a shithole, filled with shitholes. In all the states I've been to, I've literally found NOT ONE thing fascinating about Indiana.

  38. Out of one side of your mouth you say Hoosiers are racist, while out of the other side you go on anti-semitic and homophobic tangential rants.....

I am from Indiana. I hate it. I too have lived in several states, and I'm looking to move the hell out of Indiana. But it doesn't matter where YOU live, your hate speak will not win you many friends. If you were white, you'd fit right in with the KKK

  39. If you think it’s bad in Indy, come to the NWI area. It’s 10 times worse.

  40. Most of the people on this forum claim that everyone in Indiana is an asshole. I find it compelling that the majority of these posters currently live in Indiana. So, by using deductive reasoning, you are all calling yourselves assholes. Please, for the love of christ, get a filter or at least a good editor before you post. But yes, Indiana does suck.

  42. Every once in a while I do searches on how Indy sucks. I lived there 4 years after living in the DC area and my soul was dying living in Indy. NOBODY will be friends with you there. I would stroke up conversations with strangers, even in my apartment complex, and the people looked frightened and confused; they couldn't get away from me fast enough. I'm a blonde woman with german ancestry too and I hated everything about that city. Businesses now are leaving. There's hardly any decent jobs. In 4 years I was laid off 6 times in IT. I used what little money I had and moved to Denver, which was the best decision of my life.

Indiana is a hellhole. The people who say it's great are uneducated and have never left the state.

  43. I agree. I'm white and not from Indiana and I see the stupid white people in every state I've lived in and indiana s the only state I have been in where the people are horrible. Not the out of staters but the Hoosiers from here. I have had my issues with people from all over but I feel like I can't even leave my house without running in to someone trying to ruin my good day. If you are mean to Hoosiers expect to get treated like a king. If you're nice, courteous and genuine, Indiana is not the state for you

  44. My friend, you are a racist anti-semitic fissure.

I am originally from the east coast and hate it here in Indianapolis.

However, I refuse to label the entire state because I possess a character trait that you were born without: class.

And by the way, I hope you don't express your inflammatory opinions in public, they are liable to garner you a prompt beatdown, in any state.

  46. Indiana definitely sucks!! Hoosiers are so unfriendly and lack a conscience. Nothing but narcissist. I call Hoosiers bad seeds, I don't think Hoosiers should be allowed to breed, we have enough bad people in the world. If you walk up to a hoosier at work or anywhere to introduce yourself they look at you like your crazy. Crime's so bad here cause the cops are lazy, especially excise. Prostitution is worse than the drug problem here and the cops do nothing about it so it's getting worse. People here half a** everything. Hoosiers are liars.

  48. AGREE.
I grew up in Indianapolis (unfortunately). I am 21 now, and planning on leaving within the next few years. I hate this place with a passion. I hate my surroundings. I hate the people of Indianapolis. Same damn faces everywhere I go. Stupid conservatives, petty bitches, meth heads, I can keep naming them
●City of Indianapolis is so DULL and BORING. Nothing to do. Downtown area feels lifeless, empty
●Everywhere you look is factories and pollution filling the air. Indiana is ranked number 1 in factories and manufacturing plants
●Still we have a sluggish economy, and high unemployment
●Indiana is so behind on technology. We must be living so far behind everyone else who has all of these high tech and innovative things in their city. Everything here is outdated
    ●Public transport
    ●Potholes everywhere
●So many old, racist whites stuck in their ways. They aren't accepting of outsiders, different race, or anyone who isn't *their* idea of what is deemed acceptable in society. They vote Trump and watch Fox News, so says a lot about their intelligence levels
    ●MIKE PENCE
●Restrictive access to health care and women's rights
    ●Confederate flag wearing, redneck wannabes
●If you dont fit in you will be a target of hate and judgement. I'm white but I like to dress in dark/alternative style. I get rude remarks and judgemental stares all the time. Feel like I don't belong here. Dare anyone be different for a change. Everyone is close minded and ignorant. Most people are settled down here. I guarantee they have never traveled outside Indiana in their whole life nor plan to. I pity them
●Speeding is a problem. Some people think they can have a street race anywhere in their shitty cars. They are speeding thru a neighborhood street with families and pets nearby. It's a matter of time before someone gets killed. Actually the news story of the lady who hit and killed three children getting off a school bus, that happened in Indiana. Someone else also got killed on a motorcycle, from those stupid car shows they do in the Steak 'n' Shake parking lot.

I've nearly got run over several times when I was out walking. People drive like maniacs and don't obey the traffic signs. They will cut you off even if you are a pedestrian with the right of way. I'm always extra cautious about it
●Hoosiers have a complete disregard for others. They don't care about anyone but themselves. They are straight up assholes, narcissists.
●Indiana makes it on the list of one of America's most miserable states. Explains why everyone is rude and standoffish

  49. ●There isn't much to do that contributes to our physical and mental health.

I like to get out of the house but, there's hardly any sidewalks. You have no choice but to drive everywhere. Unhealthy lifestyle here in Indy. There's a lack of things to see. There's a lack of nature. Just flat land, factories, and corn fields. No beautiful mountains, no state parks. (In indianapolis) the parks they do have are quite lacking. I go on a stroll and just get to see gas stations and crackheads (which is entertaining sometimes.) But the meth is getting out of hand.

I mean you can watch sports, but other than that its work, work, working. No recreational activities around here. There's nothing more to do than to work, get drunk and watch sports.. fun!
●The food is unhealthy. Fast foods we have access to are fried, unhealthy, processed junk. There's little diversity. Burgers, fries, and soda outnumber all
●A good percentage of Hoosier adults are obese and nearly as many smoke cigarettes. Mental health ranks low. More people are depressed than ever. There's a lack of psychiatrists.
●Crime is increasing. Increase in shootings too even in the well off areas. I live in a nice average neighborhood but as of lately it's becoming less safe. Indianapolis population is reaching towards 1mill soon. As of 2018, there was estimated 800,000+ people living in the city.
●Neither medical nor recreational marijuana use is legal in Indiana as of 2020. It is classified in the same category as heroin, meth and cocaine
●IN doesn't care about the environment or wildlife
Not all Indiana people are bad. I've still met some generally good people here. But the general population IS bad in my opinion, and from my personal experience. If I sound bitter, I just feel mentally ill being here for so long. Take it or leave it.

Some people like this state the way it is. Indiana is for those who want a simple, boring life.

Ps It's funny how many salty Hoosiers there are in the comments. Getting butthurt just goes to show that you could actually relate to it in someway to actually take offense to it

  50. I lived here for a out a year and a half now and I agree with everything that's has been said especially the non white comments, this is definitely the most ignorant racist place Ive been I encourage anywho who isn't white and ignorant to leave this place and warn other people about how crappy it is , also I loss a job over a racist ass boss, long story short I'll be leaving very very very soon now I'm not saying all the people are bad but shit it doesn't matter when like 90% are bad seriously these people live in the 1950s with there way of thinking it's sad and is pity these people ,if there is one place that deserves to be blew off the map it's this shit hole

  51. I hate to pile on here but, this is just my opinion I'm sharing. I have lived in Indiana for 15 years now and it has been my least favorite state I've lived in. I feel moving here has been a mistake in my life.I hope someday I can move from here.

There is a multitude of reasons why I dislike living here. Yes, it
s cheaper here than most other places which is a positive but, the reason for that is because of low wages and low desirability until recently. Actually, when I moved here it was more expensive than places out west that I had considered.

As far as "Hoosier Hospitality" is concerned I just don't see it. I don't find the people here to be more friendly than anywhere else. To me, that whole ideology is just a facade and more of a statement in an attempt to draw individuals here. The whole hospitality thing gets blown way out of proportion.

My experience, is I have found people here to be more insular and hostile. It almost seems if you're not Pro-Indiana or don't like everything about Indiana then you are the problem or made poor life choices. The culture is just too almost too rigid.

Sad thing, I've lived here for 15 years and had only one friend. I lived 3 years prior in the Upper Midwest/Northern Plains and had more friends than that. It seems that if you didn't go to one of the state colleges here, grow up here, and have different ideals from what is deemed acceptable then you won't fit in here and a low grade individual.

The reality is that I've tried to do the best I could here and it's just never been enough. I've tried so many different things and it's just worn me down. At this point I can only hope I find a place where I'll be accepted, have opportunity, and achieve some life goals I've had for a long time.

Unfortunately, Indiana has left a bad taste in my mouth and I regret that I moved here. I hope someday that I can find a place that will make me happy, find a good support of people, and where I'll have opportunity. As long as I live here in Indiana I don't believe that will ever happen sadly.

  52. Lived here for many years near Indianapolis and just not enjoyable. For me, I've had more bad experiences living here than good ones. At this point in my life I feel like I've made a mistake moving here (not a native or like to be called a Hoosier). Stuck here for now unfortunately. Is there worse places than Indianapolis? Sure. Is there better places? The answer to that is yes.

One thing that annoys me that I see with the residents here is that they tell people their opinion of Indiana and Indianapolis is wrong without knowing what the other person's experiences were.

If you tell people here that you don't like it here it seems they get offended really easily. They'll tell you that you're the problem and you're just plain wrong. This place is all sunshine and rainbows. Or stop whining, what did you expect? Or they'll just tell you to move, as if moving out of state is cheap and easy.

One pro that you see to moving here or living here is that (for now) it's cheaper than a lot of other places. True but, that comes at a cost. That's cost with cheaper cost of living comes lower wages.

Most jobs I see around the greater Indianapolis area typically start $12-14 per hour in this current market and usually are warehouse or retail type jobs. Also some hard labor jobs pay less than neighboring states.

Regarding the scenery here, it's subjective to the individual but, myself personally I find it underwhelming especially in Central Indiana. People will mention Brown County and it's okay but, still doesn't hold a candle to the Cascades, Rockies, or Appalachian Mountains down further south. The rivers and lakes here are dirty and some walking trails you have to be careful on because you can get robbed even in what's considered the better areas of Indianapolis.

I guess the bottom line, is Indiana and Indianapolis there is a lot of things for me that get over exaggerated more than what I see with some other places. Every place has pros and cons, I get that. But, since living here there seems to be a cognitive dissonance if you don't like something about this state. I see a lot of close-mindedness.

Sorry for the negative post but, this state and the people have worn on me on over the years. I'm not sure what to make of things but, I hope the next place I move has a lot better about it. I hope I can do it soon because living here is taking a toll on me overall.
